Benign

Benign tumors may be treated with surgery if it poses a danger to any vital structure such as the nerve or eye. If there is no immediate danger, it may simply be monitored closely for growth.

Malignant

Malignant, or cancerous, tumors require immediate removal so as to prevent their spread. If a cancerous tumor spreads throughout the body, it can cause significant damage. Depending on the type of tumor it is, treatment may be surgical removal, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.

Tracheal Narrowing and Stenosis

Tracheal stenosis occurs when the trachea is narrowed, causing difficulty breathing. This narrowing can be caused by a variety of factors, including trauma, prolonged use of a breathing tube, inhalation injury, tumors, and inflammatory processes. Tracheal stenosis symptoms can be confused with those of bronchitis or asthma, so if symptoms persist it is important to see an expert head and neck surgeon.

Swallowing Disorders

Swallowing disorders can happen as a result of acid reflux, foreign material such as fish bones lodged in the throat, neurologic disorders, sphincter malfunction, tumors, and Zenker’s Diverticulum. Voice problems can occur as a result of infection, tumors, vocal cord paralysis, and laryngitis, among others.

Dr. Larian can assist you with your voice problems by diagnosing the problem and providing an individual treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Voice problems most often can be treated conservatively, with no surgery necessary.

Facial Reconstruction

Facial paralysis can have a number of causes, including Bell’s palsy, trauma, tumors, and neurologic conditions. Dr. Larian works together with renowned facial reconstructive expert Dr. Babak Azizzadeh in order to perform facial reconstructive surgery.

Each individual facial paralysis case is different, and Dr. Larian formulates unique treatment plans for every patient. Often, facial paralysis can be reduced if not completely eliminated. Dr. Larian takes both function and form into consideration when performing reconstructive surgery, and tries to ensure the best outcome both functionally and aesthetically.
